ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!
Savannah Youth Football is excited to announce that for the 2018 season our 3rd through 6th grade teams will be joining St. Joseph, Platte County and Smithville in the Northland Division of Kansas City Football and Cheerleading (KCFC). For the last two seasons our 7th Grade teams have been competing in the KCFC league with great success.
Partnering with KCFC and our other league teams provides our program and players the best possible playing experience. We will have the opportunity to keep our old rivalries and the chance to create some new ones as well. Over the last four seasons our previous St. Joseph based league has gone through significant changes with fewer and fewer teams in the area. This resulted in our teams many times having to play the same team 2-3 times in an 8 game season. This was not the playing experience we wanted for our players and we heard many concerns from parents and players as well.
KCFC offers many advantages to our teams, players and program. Teams will now be grade specific, we will be dividing our teams by grade and will only mix grades if one specific grade doesn’t have enough to form a full team. For example we will field a 5th Grade only team and a separate 6th Grade only team and the same for 3rd and 4th grade, we will no longer have the A/B format or a week of tryouts.
In addition KCFC provides game day certified athletic trainers for all games, teams will play an 8 game schedule and not have to play teams multiple times in a season. KCFC provides a sportsmanship committee member for all games to oversee any game issues with coaches, parents or spectators.
The majority of our games will still be played at the locations we are all familiar with Savannah, St. Joseph, Platte City and Smithville, we will play games in Olathe at their Heritage Park facility that features 10 fields next to Heritage Lake. League games will begin on Saturday, September 8th, giving our players and families the Labor Day Weekend off.
As always we will still be hosting our own Gridiron Classic tournament in August and will practice at the youth complex like always. Our goal when making this decision was to provide our players with the best possible experience and in turn provide our program some league stability. KCFC accomplishes both of those goals, they have over 100 teams in the league at different grade levels from all over NW Missouri and NE Kansas.
